Steps to Install SSL on SonicWall SSL VPN
Initial Checklist
Before you start Installing SSL Certificate, make sure the following processes have been completed.
- Buy/renew SSL Certificate
- Generate CSR with SHA-2
- Save CSR & Private key file on your server
- Apply for SSL Certificate Issuance
- Submit SSL Issuance documents to Certificate authority (for EV & OV SSL Certificate).
Step 1: Store Certificate Files
Once your Certificate Authority verify your documents they will send you SSL certificate via email including primary, intermediate and root certificate files. Download all files and store them on your server or computer drive.
Step 2: Rename Certificate File
Rename your SSL certificate file from your-domain.crt to server.crt
Step 3: Import Certificate File
- In your SonicWall VPN, move to System > Certificates
- Here click on Import Certificate
- Import Certificate dialogue will appear
- First, click on Browse and find the *.zip file that contains your Key and Certificate files as Server.key and Server.crt
- Enter Private Key Password if you have added previously
- Now click on Upload…
- Once the successful upload completes, the SSL certificate information will be display at System > Certificates

Step 4: Import CA Certificate File
- In your SonicWall VPN, move to System > Certificates
- In Additional CA Certificates tab, click on Import Certificates…
- Click on Browse button, find the *.zip file which contains your CA certificate in PEM format.
- Now click on Upload
- Once the successful upload completes, the CA certificate information will be display at System > Certificates
Note: All Comodo SSL certificate comes up with CRT format and encoded in PEM as well.
